A bright and sunny Canal Days
Organizers could not have dreamed for a better weather scenario for last weekend’s annual Canal Days celebrations (June 3-7).
The Village of Canal Flats was alive with residents and visitors taking advantage of the warm, sunny weather.
A pancake breakfast followed by the parade, albeit a tad late getting going, launched a busy Saturday with a wide range of family-friendly events in and around the Canal Flats Civic Centre. The coin pile, playground and Bouncy Castles proved to be a major hit with the kids, along with the Spirit Rock Climbing Wall from Kimberley and CP Rail train rides.
Hundreds of people took part in the fun, including the annual baseball tourney, a horseshoes tourney and residents also dug deep to help Cram-the-Cruiser, manned by Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment NCO S/Sgt. Marko Shehovac.
A highlight of the parade involved City of Cranbrook Mayor Lee Pratt making good on a bet with Village of Canal Flats Mayor Ute Juras. Pratt rode in the parade wearing a Canal Flats Canadian jersey, the result of the Flats’ Mathieu Fornier winning last winter’s Zamboni Challenge.
