Arsonist appears to be on the loose

Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services March 21 responded to two early morning fires that were a result of arson.

At 5:36 a.m. crews responded to a vehicle fire located in the 300 block of 17th Ave S. While attending that incident they received a second call advising of a second fire, at 6:01 a.m., located in the 700 block of 17th Ave S.

Damage to the vehicle involved in the first fire was confined to the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The second fire resulted in the destruction of a truck canopy, exterior damage to a detached garage and fire damage to the exterior of a pickup truck.

“Both fires are deemed to be arson and an RCMP investigation is ongoing.  These two fires follow a previous set fire to a vehicle located in the 700 block of 17th Ave S which occurred earlier in the week,” reported Cranbrook Fire Chief Wayne Price.

Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services are cautioning residents to report any suspicious activities to the RCMP.  As well ensure that vehicles and out buildings are locked or secured.
