Babysitter charged with second degree murder in death of 19-month-old girl
Cranbrook RCMP report that a 28-year-old Cranbrook woman has been charged in the death of 19-month-old Iyanna Teeple on May 29 this year.
RCMP Cpl. Chris Faulkner explained that a RCMP investigation followed the suspicion of foul play after the May 29 incident in which they were called to the 2000 block of Second Street North and found the young girl face down in a bathtub. The girl wasn’t breathing when police arrived and she was rushed to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital and then soon after to Calgary’s Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The child had been left with her babysitter, 28-year-old Tammy Marion Bouvette, that morning and a few hours later the girl was found face-down in the bathtub. An investigation, with valuable assistance from an Alberta medical examiner, resulted in charges being laid against Bouvette yesterday, October 24, when Crown Counsel approved a charge of second-degree murder.
Bouvette will make her first court appearance in Cranbrook Provincial Court today.
