BC Coroners Service identifies victim of train incident

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died after being struck by a train in Athalmer on Feb. 19.

She was Carmen Denise Salazar, aged 50, of Invermere.

Ms. Salazar was with a friend crossing the CP Rail tracks in Athalmer on the evening of Feb. 19. She was standing very close to the tracks with her back to them when she was struck by a southbound CP Rail coal train. She was deceased at the scene.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.

The family of Ms. Salazar has been notified of her death.
