Bennett named to Ethics Committee
Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett is one of 10 provincial MLAs named May 10 to the Select Standing Committee on Parliamentary Reform, Ethical Conduct, Standing Orders and Private Bills.
Also, public consultation was launched on the Members’ Conflict of Interest Act. The act defines conflict of interest and provides a framework for dealing with conflicts of interest involving Members of the Legislative Assembly.
“As we begin our review of the act, we are looking forward to hearing how well the act is working and how it might be improved,” said Committee Chair Colin Hansen. “All British Columbians are invited to participate by making a submission to the Committee.”
“We encourage key stakeholders and interested individuals to take part in the consultation,” said Deputy Chair Harry Lali. “The committee has the opportunity to make recommendations in our final report.”
For more information on the work of the Committee, and to view the act and to make a submission, please visit the Committee website at: www.leg.bc.ca/mcoia. The call for public input closes on Friday, June 29.
