Bob Johnstone honoured

Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Electoral Area E director Jane Walter honoured a long-time member of the Advisory Planning Committee (APC) May 4, presenting Bob Johnstone with a gift for his service to his community.

“I really appreciated all the efforts and the advice,” Walter said, adding Johnstone was always involved in APC work “and he was always there for me.”

Laughing, Walter said she was relieved when “he said he would give me advice If I phoned him.”

Johnston thanked Walter and the board “for the recognition and for the recognition you give all the volunteers every year.”

While he is stepping away from the Area E APC, Johnstone, a Meadowbrook resident, said he will remain busy with the newly established Meadowbrook Community Association (MCA).

The MCA was formed, he told the board, because of ongoing concerns of a quarry being established beside Cherry Creek Falls, located off Clarricoates Road/ Lost Dog Ridge Road north of Kimberley.

In the fall of 2011 Johnstone came upon an application to the Ministry of Energy and Mines by Lost Dog Slate and Stone and began informing community residents about the potential impacts to the scenic falls.

“That hasn’t been resolved,” Johnstone said, adding the community is interested in establishing a park at the falls site (pictured above).
