Booth proud of how community came together

Wendy Booth

Fairmont Hot Springs’ Regional District of East Kootenay director, Wendy Booth, is proud of how her community has come together since the horrific flash flood and landslide that powered down Fairmont Creek July 15, temporarily closing Highway 93/95 and extensively damaging Mountainside Golf Course and Fairmont Mountainside Vacation Villas.

Electoral Area F director Booth, from Fairmont, told e-KNOW, “Personally, I’m really proud to call Fairmont my home” because of the way neighbours helped neighbours and did what they could for one another.

She is also grateful for the efforts of emergency services workers.

“We are very impressed with the amount of support from the emergency services. This situation could have been a lot worse and we are thankful for that,” Booth said.

She echoed what Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA Norm Macdonald said yesterday, that despite Mother Nature’s recent fury Fairmont remains open for business during this busy summer season.

“This event, while the impact is big, it is isolated to a certain degree.  Fairmont Hot Springs Resort remains open for business. The other golf courses, restaurants and activities that Fairmont Hot Springs has to offer are available,” she said.

Meanwhile, MLA Macdonald said consideration of disaster relief is now on the books.

“If disaster relief is required, my office will be available to assist applicants in requesting provincial assistance. You can reach me by email at [email protected] or call 1- 866-870-4188,” he told e-KNOW.
