Cell phones found; are they yours?

Periodically cell phones are turned into the RCMP.  Unfortunately, they are rarely returned to the rightful owners as we cannot determine who they belong too.

Older phones did not employ the same security features new phones have. It was not difficult to access phone information and find a friend or relative’s number and eventually track down an owner.

In other cases a call to the provider with a serial number may find an owner, now a number of new phones cannot be opened to find a serial number and providers due to Privacy Laws cannot supply the information.

A good suggestion; put your name and alternate contact number somewhere on the outside of the phone.

Kimberley RCMP has a fairly new white iPhone that was turned in quite some time ago, which may have been stolen late last year. We also have a black Samsung, which was turned into during JulyFest.

If you think either of these phones belong to you, attend the Kimberly RCMP Detachment, bring your charger as they have no battery power and use your password to confirm ownership.
