Cherry Lake wildfire 50% contained
The Cherry Lake wildfire that has been burning since August 25, 35 km south of Cranbrook, is 50% contained the BC Wildfire Service noted this morning in an update.
The roughly 1,250 ha lightning-caused fire has seen 12-15 mm of precipitation so far, which has helped with fire suppression activities.
There are still 49 firefighters battling the blaze with mechanized support on the downswing, with only two helicopters and six pieces of heavy equipment now involved.
The fire is not threatening any structures or communities.
A public access restriction for the Caven, Wickman, Larch, Bloom, Teepee and Teepee / Jim Creek Forest Service Road has also been lifted. These roads are now open to the public.
