City honours Karin Penner

Cranbrook and District Chamber of Commerce manager Karin Penner has spent the last 30 years building the business advocacy organization into one of the most respected in British Columbia.

Along the way she has also been instrumental in creating city ambassadors through the Cranbrook Youth Ambassadors Program and by promoting the city at every turn and opportunity.

Last night (Jan. 20), the City of Cranbrook honoured Penner for her three decades of service to the community with a special presentation prior to the story of the regular council meeting.

A bit red faced after stumbling with Penner’s name (getting his Karin/Karens mixed up), Mayor Wayne Stetski said he was making “a special presentation to a very special woman.”

Cranbrook has the “best youth ambassador program in B.C.,” he said, crediting Karin.

On hand with key chamber staff, Penner graciously accepted the city’s gift and noted, “I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to do something I really love.”

She praised current and past city leaders and her staff at the chamber for helping make the experience better, adding she’s loved promoting Cranbrook.

“There have been lots of ups and downs but it’s been such a pleasure and a blessing,” she said.
