There has been plenty of bear activity in Kootenay National Park lately, prompting closures at several locations within the park.

Closures because of bear activity are at Olive Lake day use area, around the southbound brake check, as well as warnings at Redstreak Campground, Cobb Lake trail, and the Olive Lake northbound brake check.

KNPbearsParks Canada is especially concerned because of the number of mother bears with cubs frequenting the dandelions and grasses near Highway 93, and are asking motorists to heed the posted speed limits and be extra cautious in these areas (near the south end of Kootenay on 93S).

The bears are expected to stay in the area in the coming weeks until the snow melts at higher elevations.
