Columbia Valley RCMP Report

By Cpl. Jeff Witzke

This past week, June 30 through July 6, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 96 calls for service.

The summer months are the detachment’s busiest where the call volume doubles per week. This week saw four vehicles being taken off the highways for excessive speeding.

Vehicle stolen at gun point

On July 2 at approx. 6:45 p.m., Columbia Valley RCMP was made aware of a robbery and theft of a vehicle where a firearm was used. Four occupants were sitting in their vehicle when a lone male approached, pointed a firearm at the driver demanding the keys and cell phones of all the occupants before driving off. Police immediately began making patrols but were unable to locate the vehicle. This file is currently still under investigation, the stolen vehicle’s whereabout are still unknown.

Stranded paddlers rescued

On July 6, Columbia Valley RCMP was called to assist with a couple who were stranded in the wetlands.  The couple was kayaking when the current took them down river and were now stranded and unable to paddle back. Officers were able to locate them and had them paddle across the river to the members were. They were then given a ride back to their vehicle.
