COP recruiting new members
Are you intrigued by community policing? Are you looking to volunteer your time with a group that has some fun and excitement?
Do you want to learn a new skill? The Cranbrook Citizens on Patrol (COP) is now in the process of recruiting new members.
Cranbrook RCMP is seeking community members for the Cranbrook Citizens on Patrol group. The members of Citizens on Patrol (COP) act as extra “eyes and ears” for the Cranbrook RCMP. Their volunteer work is extremely beneficial to the community and greatly appreciated. Their efforts have assisted the RCMP in detecting impaired and dangerous drivers, break and enters, and locating suspects who are fleeing on foot, to name just a few.
COP volunteers receive training provided by local RCMP in various disciplines including radio protocol, observation and patrol techniques, note taking, traffic control and safety, S.A.R.S (Stolen Automobile Recovery System) computer training, 10 code and Alpha code use.
New COP volunteers will be required to travel with an experienced COP member prior to final acceptance into the program. Criminal record and driving record checks will be done to ensure the integrity of the program.
To become a COP member you must:
– be a minimum of 19 years old;
– either reside in or have a business in Cranbrook;
– commit to one shift per month (seven hours);
– participate in training sessions.
