Three Cranbrook students, enrolled in engineering courses at College of the Rockies won medals at the Skills BC Competition in Abbotsford on April 17.

The three competitors, all Mt. Baker Secondary School students, were enrolled in College of the Rockies’ Engineering Graphics course as dual credit students.  Dual credit allows secondary students to apply for eligibility to receive both secondary school and post-secondary credits for college courses.

Dual credit students Edmond Yoo and Derek Johnson, along with their partner Landon Harvey, won the gold medal for robotics in the provincial competition.  As a result of their win they have been invited to represent British Columbia at the National Skills Competition in Vancouver June 5 to 8.

Simon Eaton, also a dual credit student enrolled in the Engineering Graphics course, was awarded the silver medal for his work in Mechanical CADD – Drafting.

College of the Rockies’ Regional Transitions Coordinator Brian Conrad says, “The partnership agreement between the School District (SD5) and College of the Rockies has been a definite asset for these students.  This program, combined with their hard work and the dedicated support of their teachers, Bill Walker and Paul Knipe, contributed to their tremendous success.  We congratulate them all.”
