Crime Stoppers fundraising underway

This is one door-to-door campaign the RCMP have no problems alerting residents to.

On August 21 the East Kootenay Crime Stoppers Society launched its 2013 fundraising campaign, again using the help of 4 Elements Consulting Inc. Representatives will be going door-to-door in the East Kootenay area selling coupon cards to raise funds for East Kootenay Crime Stoppers.

“Many crimes have been solved thanks to the hard work of Crime Stoppers.  You can support your local Crime Stoppers program with the purchase of the certificate package that offers great discounts on products and services from our local Crime Stoppers sponsors,” said Eric Ausman, East Kootenay Crime Stopper Coordinator since 1992.

“Canvassers are now out going door-to-door; they have bright orange jackets with the 4 Elements logo on the right side and Crime Stoppers Fundraiser on the left side. If you are still wary of them, by all means ask for identification.  The canvassers carry proper ID with them at all times”.

Canvassers are selling a coupon card offering many discounts and savings from businesses and organizations in the East Kootenay area.  The coupon card, with tax, sells for $28 and canvassers have the technology to accept debit cards at the door.

East Kootenay Crime Stoppers’ last campaign raised approximately $13,000 for the program.  This will be the third time the program has been run in the East Kootenay.

Crime Stoppers is not a police program.  Crime Stoppers is a community program supported by community partnerships and financed through charitable fundraising.  The funds raised go directly to program costs and to pay TIPSTERs their rewards.

Since 1992 East Kootenay Crime Stoppers have assisted in the recovering of stolen property and remove drugs from our communities valued in excess of $4,200,000, while paying out approximately $27,000 in rewards.  This year alone East Kootenay CS has assisted in the removal of over $800,000 worth of drugs already.

“This is an important source of revenue for our program,” said Ausman.  “It’s one of the ways that we pay for rewards and run our program.”

East Kootenay Crime Stoppers thanks all the businesses that have provided services for the coupon book and all the citizens that will be helping the program to continue on successfully.
