Defibrillators installed at all EKC branches

February is heart awareness month with Heart and Stroke and Valentine’s Day. East Kootenay Community Credit Union (EKC) has resolved to improve health and safety for its members, staff and the larger community by installing defibrillator devices at each of its branches.

After a need was identified for a defibrillator unit to be available in the downtown core of Cranbrook, EKC’s Board of Directors decided to go a step further and requested for a defibrillator unit to be put in each branch location. The value of the defibrillators is just over $7,000 for all four units. Earlier in the fall, EKC had 11 staff, representing all four branches, receive Defibrillator training.

According to Board Member Don Holt (pictured above), “East Kootenay Community Credit Union provides many services to our communities, and placing a defibrillator in our credit unions is just one more way we can reach out to the public. The defibrillators are there for an emergency not only in Cranbrook but we also we have placed them in the Fernie, Sparwood, and Elkford branches of EKC. Our staff have been trained to assist you with this device should you ever need to access one.”

EKC encourages its members as well as the community to feel free to stop in their local branch to check out the location of the defibrillators and to feel free to discuss any questions they have with EKC’s staff team.
