Delays to be expected on Hwy 93 South

Travellers heading through Kootenay National Park on Highway 93 South should expect delays of up to 15 minutes until August 15, advises Parks Canada.

Starting August 6 and going to August 13, an eight kilometre section of Highway 93 South, just south of Vermilion Crossing, will underg  paving work.

And on August 14 and 15 this work will move to a two-km stretch of the highway just north of the Kootenay National Park entrance near Radium Hot Springs.

Expect delays of approximately 15 minutes between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily as traffic is reduced to one lane single alternating while this work is completed.

Delay times may increase on Friday and Sunday with increased weekend traffic.

Parks Canada reminds that safety of the road crews and motorists is our top priority. Please respect flagging crews and follow speed limits to help keep workers and motorists safe.

We have a short construction window in the mountains and we appreciate people’s patience as this work is being completed that will help improve road conditions over the long term.
