45-year-old Alberta woman killed in crash

East Kootenay Traffic Services and Columbia Valley RCMP, on January 15, 4:18 pm responded to a two vehicle collision on highway 93/95 at Radium Hot Springs.

A northbound vehicle lost control and swerved into the path of a southbound bus.  The driver of the car was transported to Invermere & District Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver was a 45-year-old woman from Alberta.  The driver, who was the single occupant of the bus, was uninjured.  The collision is still under investigation, but speed too fast for the road conditions is expected, report the RCMP.

The highway was closed until about 7:30 p.m. last night.

Meanwhile, all highway condition websites are reporting ‘slippery sections’ for all highways in the East Kootenay, as a deep freeze descends from the north, plunging our Alberta neighbours into-30 C temperatures and a massive Pacific storm gathers speed to the southwest of the B.C. coast, with large volumes of snow expected to follow in its path. At this time it is not believed that the East Kootenay will get hit hard by that system but that could change as the day continues.

Light snow is forecast for tomorrow and sun is supposed to return Wednesday, with lingering cooler temperatures.

As details on the accident and weather conditions become available, e-KNOW will provide updates.
