Elkford CAO leaving post
The District of Elkford’s chief administrative officer Corien Speaker is heading west to take on a similar role with the District of Squamish.
Speaker, a Fernie resident, announced her imminent move earlier June 6 and later noted it on Facebook.
“It is official… I am moving to Squamish. I start a new job as CAO for the District of Squamish on July 3. Needless to say, I am very excited,” Speaker stated on her Facebook page.
Since the commencement of her employment with the District of Elkford in 2004, Speaker has been a “brand-champion” for the district’s award-winning re-branding process, helped shape a new tax sharing agreement in the Elk Valley, and has guided the creation of an Official Community Plan that has been recognized by the United Nations for its climate change adaptation strategy, notes a district press release distributed this morning (June 7).
“We are proud of the accomplishments that Corien has achieved during her time with the district. She has helped our municipality stand-out and continuously strive for greatness. She will be missed,” stated Mayor Dean McKerracher.
Originally from Creston and a Bachelor of Commerce degree holder from Thompson Rivers University, Speaker has been Elkford’s CAO since 2004.
She is also a Certified General Accountant with a diploma in Local Government Management from the University of Victoria.
Speaker will start work in Squamish on July 3.
At this time, the District of Elkford has not made any decisions regarding the process for replacing the CAO.
