Elkford Council News
The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the March 29 District of Elkford council meeting.
Elkford Commuter Bicycle Transportation Plan
In order for the District of Elkford to become a safer, bicycle friendly community, where cycling is a viable alternative to driving, council approved the Elkford Commuter Bicycle Transportation Plan that will help set priorities when considering the development of bicycle paths.
Highway 43 Trail
Council approved an application for a grant from BikeBC funding program to build the Highway 43 trail. This trail will encourage cycling transportation.
Boivin Creek Pedestrian Bridge
The public will be invited to participate in the naming process of the new Boivin Creek pedestrian bridge. Details of the public engagement will be announced shortly.
Safer Highways leadership commitment
Safer Highways is a committee dedicated to deterring high risk driving on our local highways. The committee is dedicated to promoting the awareness of the need to decrease the frequency and severity of vehicle incidents along the roads. District of Elkford representatives will participate in the first meeting of the committee, and will continue to work towards safer highways in the Elk Valley.
Coal Miner Days Parade
This year marks the 50th birthday of Sparwood and the District of Elkford is planning on participating in Coal Miner Days Parade, June 11.
