Elkford councillor resigns

District of Elkford Councillor Walter Conibear has announced his resignation from the seven-seat council.

Conibear tendered his resignation on January 12, citing personal reasons for his decision. He was elected by acclamation in the 2011 Municipal Election.

“I am disappointed that Councillor Conibear has decided to resign,” said Mayor Dean McKerracher. “The rest of council and I felt that Councillor Conibear had valuable input in the council process; however, I do understand that he has resigned for personal reasons and I will accept his resignation.”
Following the appointment of a Chief Election Officer, which is expected to take place at the January 23 regular council meeting, a municipal by-election will be called to fill the vacant seat.
