Environment Canada snowfall warning includes Elk Valley
Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for the Elk Valley at 8:28 a.m. (Dec. 17), which likely doesn’t come as a surprise to residents who have ventured or looked outside.
Heavy snow is expected today throughout much of southern B.C.
According to Environment Canada, a low pressure system is moving east along the U.S.-B.C. border today and will continue to give snow at times heavy for sections of the Southern Interior and Kootenays.
Southern sections of the Fraser Canyon will see an additional 10 cm of snow today. Meanwhile, strong southerly flow through the Okanagan Valley will lead to heavy snow over higher elevations of West Kelowna and areas in the vicinity of Peachland, with an additional 10 cm possible this morning.
Over the Kootenay regions an additional five to 10 cm is expected today, with higher amounts up to 15 cm possible in the vicinity of Trail, Rossland and Warfield.
The Elk Valley is expected to receive 15 cm in the vicinity of Fernie and Morrissey.
Snow is expected to begin to taper off through this afternoon as the area of low pressure exits the region to the east, reports Environment Canada.
