Farmed salmon boycotts at Superstores Jan. 18

On Saturday, January 18, there will be boycotts at Superstore locations in B.C., as well as in the Atlantic provinces, including at Cranbrook’s store.

Concerned community members are invited to take action and join the boycott at the Superstore in Cranbrook, January 18, from 12 – 2 p.m. to protect the wild salmon of British Columbia from the impact of salmon farms.

The boycott will be a further show to request that net-pen farmed salmon, otherwise known as Atlantic Farmed Salmon, be removed from their coolers over health concerns.

Concerned citizens are raising awareness to help Superstore customers make informed decisions, and choose not to buy contaminated net-pen farmed salmon.

This has become a health serious health concern, so last year, a request was sent to the Director of Sustainability at Loblaws, which oversees Superstores, to have net-pen farmed salmon removed from their stores. So far, a response has not been received or even acknowledged. This is why the boycott action is being intensified at their stores. People are concerned, not only about what the open-net feedlot aquaculture industry is doing to the marine environment and wild salmon, but also the potential harm to human health, especially children and pregnant mothers.

Although there is documented evidence of harm, government refuses to acknowledge the problems and is hiding the research.
