Federal election Monday, Oct. 19
Monday, October 19 is election day in Canada.
Polls are open for 12 hours that day across the nation.
To vote, you must be registered. If you’re not registered, you can register at your polling place, just before you vote. Other registration means are now closed, according to Elections Canada.
If you’re registered, you should have received a voter information card by mail. It tells you when and where to vote. If you did not get one, you can also use the online Voter Information Service to find out where to vote.
There were four advance voting days, starting Friday, Oct. 9 and ending Monday, Oct. 12.
Elections Canada estimates that 3.6 million electors voted at the four days of advance polls. This represents an increase of 71% over the number of electors who voted at the three days of advance polls in 2011.
Of that number, 70,231 electors registered and voted at temporary Elections Canada offices set up at select campuses, Friendship Centres and community centres as part of a pilot project that took place October 5 to 8.
To find out where you vote in the Kootenay-Columbia riding on election day, go HERE. Be forewarned, in typical federal government fashion, it is a stodgy, limited and prickly site. Have your postal code handy.
