Fire crews battle Tembec Planer Mill throughout night; Theatre Road now open
At approximately 9:55 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services were called to a fire at the Tembec planer mill, located just off Theatre Road in Cranbrook.
In all 16 firefighters and several engines responded to the call and found the facility engulfed. Responders created a perimeter and began actioning the blaze.
Crews will remain on scene throughout the night and into Friday morning, watching for flair ups. As of 12:40 a.m. on Friday, November 2, Theatre Road is closed to all traffic. Anyone requiring access to any businesses along Theatre Road in the morning need to find an alternate route.
The Tembec planer mill facility has been closed and unused for a number of years. It is not clear if the fire involved either the kiln or the finger joint plant on the property.
There are no reports of death or injuries. No cause has yet been determined nor is a damage estimate available.
