FireSmart events at Lakeview Meadows

Two FireSmart events are underway and planned for Lakeview Meadows (in Windermere).

The first is curbside chipping, which began Oct. 1 and runs until Oct. 15.

The second event is a Work Bee on October 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

To participate in curbside chipping:

  • Remove junipers and prune trees.
  • Stack the thick ends of branches at the end of your driveway.
  • Pile sizes are 2mx2mx1m (6’x6’x3’).
  • Please register your address at [email protected]

Work bee:

Join your neighbours in helping to reduce flammable vegetation on common property and enjoy a hot lunch afterwards.

Please meet at the Recreation Centre at 9:30 a.m. A headcount is required for lunch, so please sign up by October 7, at [email protected].

FireSmart is a program that helps residents increase neighbourhood resilience to wildfire and minimize its negative impacts.

From simple tips for homeowners looking to protect their property to community programs led by local experts, everything you need to protect and prepare your home, neighbourhood, or municipality during wildfire season can be addressed by FireSmart principles.

The East Kootenay’s focus on the FireSmart program remains strong. We follow the principles of FireSmart BC and FireSmart Canada to encourage residents to adopt FireSmart practices and reduce the potential for wildfire impacts on their properties.
