Public Works says areas of concern yesterday with flooding are looking much better this morning. Today Public Works is dealing with a backlog of calls of basements filling with water and will get to as many as possible. Crews are also working to temporarily fill some major potholes on city streets that developed yesterday due to the water. Road crews are also doing salting and sanding of city streets in some areas due to some early morning icy conditions.

“Right now every available staff member with our Public Works department and every piece of available equipment are still out there working,” says Chris Zettel, Communications Officer for the City of Cranbrook. “Staff is stretched trying to deal with the concerned calls from the public and are doing their very best to assist everyone. However, the public is being asked to please do what they can to help themselves as well.”

Joseph Creek is still running high, but not as high as late in the day Thursday. Residents are also advised to please stay away from any creeks, including Joseph Creek and lakes including both Elizabeth and Idlewild Lake. Ice conditions on both lakes will most likely be very poor and someone may be able to fall through. The weather forecast is calling for continued warm temperatures
