Flooding potential noted by RDEK

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is asking residents to keep an eye on regional waterways as weather conditions may create ice build up and possible flooding.

In a Facebook post today (Dec. 12), the RDEK noted, “Mother Nature is at it again. If you live in and around a waterway, you may have noticed ice building up on some local rivers and streams. With the warmer temperatures this week, there is the potential for ice jams to cause localized flooding.”

To help expedite emergency responses, the RDEK also provided necessary emergency numbers.

“If you are experiencing flooding (or another large scale event), these are the numbers to call to report the emergency and alert local emergency officials. They are provincial numbers, and the call centre activates local emergency officials.

“If people are telling you they are experiencing flooding (or another large scale event), please tell them to call the appropriate emergency number below,” the RDEK post explains.

There have been no reports of flooding reported in the region at this time.

If you see—or are experiencing—a wide scale emergency, please report it.
