Flooding threats subsiding; waterways still high

The BC River Forecast Centre has downgraded the Flood Warning to a Flood Watch for the Elk River at Fernie.

The BC River Forecast Centre has ended the High Stream-flow Advisory for: Upper Columbia (Kicking Horse River); West and East Kootenay; Upper Columbia (small tributary rivers); Lower Columbia (small tributary rivers).

The Elk River has been responding to heavy rainfall over the last week and the water level at Fernie peaked on Friday, June 21 at 4.625m and a flow of approximately 1000 m3/s. The river is now flowing at 506 m3/s and is continuing to recede; however, river levels remain very high.

Flows of the Kicking Horse River, the Kootenay River, the lower and upper Columbia Rivers and their tributaries are now receding and are lower than a flow of two-year return period.

The River Forecast Centre will continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates as required.
