Fraudster gets more brazen with seniors
A middle-aged man is still preying on the kindness of Cranbrook residents and getting more brazen in his method.
On March 9 Cranbrook RCMP was approached by a citizen who advised he was scammed out of $50. A man had approached him near the Cranbrook Mall saying he had just come to Cranbrook by ambulance and needed money in order to get back home. The concerned citizen handed over the $50 after the male said he would meet him a week later and pay him back. The Cranbrook citizen went to the allotted meeting point but the man never showed.
On March 21, Cranbrook RCMP was again alerted to a man scamming people out of money. This time an elderly male had just returned to his vehicle and opened his door to get in. The suspect then jumped into the back seat of the car and proceeded to give the senior and his wife a sob story about not having any money. Although the male made no threats, the couple was concerned thinking this man might attack them if they did not do what he wanted. The pair gave the suspect $100 and then drove him to King Street.
Cranbrook RCMP is seeking this male in order to proceed with possible charges of Fraud/ False Pretenses. If anyone in the public has had similar incidents the Cranbrook RCMP would like to be notified.
