Free family skate and swim at Gifts That Give Hope
The community is encouraged to come out and play on Dec. 5 at the second annual Gifts That Give Hope community fair.
The fair, hosted by the Cranbrook and District Community Foundation (CDCF), incorporates fun crafts, activities, and entertainment for kids of all ages throughout the day, includes a free skate with Santa from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., a toddler play zone, and a free family swim from 1 to 3 p.m., courtesy the Salvation Army.
The free family event, held at Western Financial Place, provides holiday shoppers with an opportunity to learn about local non-profit organizations, and gift a donation at a central checkout to a cause of their choice in the name of a friend or loved one. Shoppers will then receive a card to put under the tree for their special someone that explains the gift made in their honour.
Last year Gifts That Give Hope raised more than $3,500 for local non-profits. This year, there are over 50 gift options to choose from, ranging in price, from a dozen local charities. For example, shoppers can buy a week’s worth of food for a mother staying at her ill child’s hospital bedside, a week’s worth of lunches for a child in need in Cranbrook, one night stay in the Salvation Army emergency shelter for a person in need, or send a child to burn camp.
Children can also gift a donation for their family and friends, at a cost of $5, such as a toy for a cat at the SPCA, and decorate a special holiday card to go with their present.
Cranbrook’s Gifts That Give Hope event is presented by the Cranbrook and District Community Foundation, in association with B-104 Total Country and the Drive FM.
Gifts That Give Hope community fair is open and free to the public and runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5, at Western Financial Place.
