Fundraiser for Sparwood man battling cancer
Sparwood and area residents are gathering Friday, Dec. 13 to help one of their own.

A fundraiser is being planned at the Sparwood Royal Canadian Legion for Merv Miller, a local man battling lung cancer.
Event organizer Angel Hutton echoed the event poster, noting, “In a community that is known for looking after its own, he is definitely a man of the community. Merv is battling lung cancer and could really use a hand with things.”
The appropriately named Angel contacted e-KNOW to help spread the word about the event.
“His clothes are so big now they just fall off him. I really pray the community can do something to help him as I am in no way able to provide financial support so this fundraiser was all I can think of to help,” she said. “He really is a very kind man and all I want is to see him get some help and I am not letting him be alone Christmas Day. I am going to spend it with him if he is not feeling up to leaving home,” she said.
If you would like to help out but can’t make to the legion Friday, you can drop off cash or cheque donations in a Christmas card. Please feel free to drop them off to Merv’s landlord Lilly Bowers, at apartment 201 – 575 Pine Avenue in Sparwood. It is the apartment closest to BC Ambulance or at the Sparwood Legion.
“Or if you wish to visit Merv in person please personal message me (Angel Hutton) and I can give you his phone number to call and make those arrangements with him,” Hutton noted. Her Facebook page is at: https://www.facebook.com/angel.hutton .
Merv’s mailing address is Box 555 Sparwood, B.C., V0B 2GO.
