Green Building Conference this weekend
The fourth annual Green Building Conference runs this weekend (Nov. 8 & 9) at the Kimberley Conference and Athlete Training Centre.
The public is invited to three great events – all ‘Green and Free’!
1) Retrofit Revolution – Keynote Presentation by Lorraine Gauthier on Friday, November 8 – 7:30 p.m. at the Stemwinder Lounge, Kimberley Alpine Resort.
The spotlight has been on building new homes that are more energy efficient and sustainable. But what about the huge stock of older homes across the country?
In 50 years, two thirds of Canada’s existing homes will still be here. Will they be the energy hogs they are today? Or will we start a retrofit revolution before it’s too late?
Join Lorraine Gauthier as she describes the vision and approach behind the Now House® – the transformation of older houses to net zero energy homes -and explores current approaches for achieving deep energy retrofits on a community scale.”
2) Green Expo – 20 exhibitors featuring green products and services for building/renovating on Saturday, Nov. 9, 10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in the New Dawn Ballroom, Kimberley Conference & Athlete Training Centre.
Featuring 20 exhibitors showcasing their products, services and information relevant to a variety of green elements in both home building and renovating, this is a great opportunity to see what is going on in our region in green building.
Whether you are in the market to build or renovate your home, or are a tradesperson, realtor, or a building inspector, find out what is happening in green building and why. Meet the people, see the products, and see what is being done to make homes more energy efficient.
3) Green Home Renovations Workshop – by CHBA BC & E3 Eco Group on Saturday, Nov. 9, 3:30 – 5 p.m. at the North Star Room at Kimberley Conference and Athlete Training Centre.
Tackling a renovation and considering ‘Greening’ your home? Join us and discover resources for retrofitting a home, the long lasting effects of energy efficiency, how to evaluate the most cost effective places to begin a renovation and how to balance the need for sustainability with a budget. We will also discuss incentives available after a renovation, the cleanest and most affordable fuels, importance of infrastructure items, and the holistic benefits of upgrades in addition to energy savings.
