Heidout first business to get revite tax exemption

The Heidout Restaurant and Brewhouse is the first business in Cranbrook to avail itself of the city’s Downtown Revitalization Taxation Exemption.

The former Heidi’s Restaurant became the Heidout & Fisher Peak Brewing Company last year and a complete renovation was done to accommodate the changes.

Owner Heidi Romich applied to the city for a tax exemption agreement in lieu of improvements to a downtown building and May 12 City of Cranbrook council unanimously and enthusiastically approved the exemption.

“This is the first (tax exemption application) that has come to council. Hopefully we get many more,” said Mayor Wayne Stetski. “A big thank you to Heidi Romich for her faith in Cranbrook.”

City planner Rob Veg told council another tax exemption application is expected shortly from the new dental clinic building at 2nd Street North and 14th Avenue North.
