Canadian Pacific Railway’s rolling vacuum of support for food banks across the nation – the Holiday Train – made four stops in the East Kootenay Dec. 10.

The festively resplendent train rolled into Sparwood, Fernie, Jaffray and Cranbrook Tuesday afternoon and evening, thrilling several thousand kids and adults with live entertainment, holiday cheer and support for food banks.

HolidayTThe 2013 CP Holiday Train, the 15th annual program, launched on November 25 in Kahnawake, Quebec, formally kicking off the three-week journey across the nation to Port Coquitlam, arriving Dec. 16.

Another train has been rolling across the US Northeast and Midwest and will conclude its trek Dec. 19 in Weyburn, Sask.

HolidayTrThe schedule, available on CP’s website at www.cpr.ca and on CP’s Facebook page, outlines plans for the ‘train of lights’ to partner with communities in raising food and money for local food banks.

Since the Holiday Train program first launched in 1999, it has raised $7.4 million and three million pounds of food for local communities.

HolidayTrainFireIn that time Holiday Trains have covered approximately 100,000 miles, and entertained hundreds of thousands of supporters.

The Holiday Train rolled west to Creston Dec. 11, skipping the Columbia Valley.
