Impaired driving incident on Victoria Avenue

On January 20, at approximately 9:14 a.m., Cranbrook RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle incident at the intersection of Kootenay Street and Victoria Avenue North in Cranbrook.

The driver of a white SUV reportedly lost control and collided with a light pole.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident. Police determined the driver was impaired by alcohol.

The driver was treated for non‑life‑threatening injuries and issued a 90‑day driving prohibition. The vehicle was also impounded for 30 days.

“Given the normal traffic patterns at this busy intersection, the incident could easily have been much worse,” said Cranbrook RCMP Detachment commander S/Sgt. Barry Graham.

“Impaired drivers can be present on our roadways at any time of day. We ask motorists and pedestrians to remain aware of their surroundings and to call 9‑1‑1 if they observe unsafe driving behaviour.”
