KNP highway closed due to ice; now open
UPDATE: The highway was opened for traffic in both directions at 10:50 a.m.
Parks Canada this morning closed Highway 93S through Kootenay National Park because of extremely slippery conditions.
The northern section of highway between Castle Mountain and Kootenay Crossing is currently closed, with a detour available from Golden south on Highway 95 to the Columbia Valley.
The estimated time of opening has been posted for noon today (Monday, Jan. 26).
Check DriveBC for updates. Roads throughout the national parks area (Yoho, Kootenay and Banff) are all listed as in poor condition at this time.
