Legion supports new microscope for EKRH Lab
The Cranbrook Legion Branch 24 has donated $8000 to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health (EKFH) to purchase a new microscope for the lab at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.
This microscope will support a new pathologist on site. It is used to diagnose cancer and other disease processes. The addition will help improve the lab’s ability to report these important results across the region.
The Legion funds were raised through the annual poppy campaign fund. In 2025, Branch 24 raised a total of $42,000 selling poppies through the weeks leading up to Remembrance Day. These funds were split between local non-profit organizations, including EKFH.
This year’s donation adds to a long list of times the poppy fund has supported health care improvements at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital. In recent years, the poppy fund has contributed to the planned oncology and renal care expansion, provided new furniture to the East Kootenay Palliative Care Family Room, and helped upgrade the Ear, Nose, and Throat Navigation System used in the OR.
EKFH is continually grateful to be a recipient of the Cranbrook Legion poppy fund and want to give a huge thank you to all the members, volunteers, and poppy fund supporters. Year after year, they are always so important to taking care of our community.
