Local MP appointed deputy shadow minister

Rob Morrison, Member of Parliament for Kootenay-Columbia, was today (Dec. 20) appointed Deputy Shadow Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.

“One of my priorities during the recent election was to deal with the important issues that surround the safety and security of Canadians,” said Morrison. “I am honoured to have been provided this new opportunity to serve as Deputy Shadow Minister and deliver, at a National level, on the promise that I made to the people of Kootenay-Columbia. Keeping Canadians safe and safeguarding the rights and freedoms of all those who call Canada home is of the utmost importance and I look forward to getting to work on this important file.”

Morrison goes on to address gun legislation saying that, “we need to stand up for law-abiding firearms owners, like the lawful farmers and sportsman in Kootenay-Columbia and penalize organized crime and gang violence.”

A media release notes MP Morrison has had a distinguished career in the field of safety and security and brings a wealth of experience to the role. He served as Director General with the Treasury Board Secretariat where he was responsible for an information-sharing environment with all law enforcement agencies and foreign governments.

He also served as a Senior Executive Chief Superintendent responsible for policing service delivery models throughout British Columbia. He served as a diplomat with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAIT) where he was responsible for seventeen countries in Central/Southwest Asia and the Middle East and engaged firsthand with Senior Foreign Government Officials as well as Canadians in foreign countries representing the voice of Canada and serving to ensure the safety and security of all Canadians.

Morrison was officially recognized by Prime Minister Stephen Harper for his years of loyal public service and has received multiple recognitions, including a Commissioners Commendation for Outstanding Service.
