Meth, heroin and cocaine seized in drug busts

rcmplogoDrug dealers have no boundaries

On Dec 15, RCMP from Cranbrook and Kimberley executed a search warrant on a home on 9th Avenue in Cranbrook. Significant quantities of crystal meth and heroin were seized.

A 33-year-old woman, now residing in Cranbrook, but who had recently moved from Kimberley, was arrested and is currently in custody. She is facing charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and will appear in court later today (Dec 16). At the street level the quantity seized constitutes several hundred doses.

Police have not seen a lot of these drugs in our area and are working hard to curtail it.

Meth is highly addictive and in desperation to obtain these drugs, subjects go on to other crimes, primarily theft. In addition meth is relatively cheap which results in purchases by younger persons with lesser or no incomes.

On Dec 3, police arrested a 50-year-old male from Marysville who was delivering cocaine to a customer in Cranbrook. Upon arrest police seized two packages of cocaine, with a gram in each, along with the vehicle he used to convey the product. On Dec 4, he appeared before a Judicial Justice of the Peace on charges of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, he was released for court on Dec 16 on a number of conditions.

Drug dealers will sell to whomever; where ever, they may reside in a certain community but will travel to neighboring areas in order to sell. In the two cases above there was a clear connection between Cranbrook and Kimberley.

In addition officers from Cranbrook and Kimberley assisted the Columbia Valley detachment with an arrest and seizure of cocaine on Nov 14. On Nov 15, the same officers assisted Fernie in an arrest and seizure of cocaine.

It’s important to realize that although an arrest is made in one area that subject likely has connections throughout the Kootenays and often into Alberta or the Okanagan.
