NDP candidate hopefuls meet in Fernie
Over 50 people filled local business Le Grande Fromage in downtown Fernie last week, coming together to meet NDP nominees Randal Macnair of Fernie and Norma Blissett of Cranbrook.

Supporters from Fernie were joined by people from Cranbrook in an event that was social yet dealt squarely with their matter at hand: building momentum for the spring election.

Macnair felt the turnout was strong and reflected the feeling in the community, “People who have never been involved with the NDP before are coming forward to work for change alongside long-time party members.”
Blissett was also pleased and said, “It was great to be able to come to Fernie and meet so many NDP members and supporters. The Fernie community traditionally has supported the NDP. Many residents told me that they are looking forward to having a provincial NDP government.”
With the Christy Clark Liberals languishing in the polls it is no surprise that people are rallying behind Adrian Dix and the NDP both across the province and now, as evidenced, in Kootenay East.
Discussion focused on the positive as summarized by Fernie resident Mary Menduk, “I was so impressed and encouraged by the energy and the understanding of the issues by the young people who attended. It gives me hope.”
In his address to the crowd Macnair stated, “For too long the politics of division and intimidation have held sway in Victoria and in Kootenay East. We need a government that puts equality over elitism and we need Kootenay East to be a part of that government.”
The Kootenay East NDP nomination meeting will be held on September 22, when the membership will decide between Blissett and Macnair.
