New Vice Principal for Frank J. Mitchell School

Barb Endicott’s position as vice-principal at Frank J. Mitchell on a one-year temporary basis was ratified by the School District No. 5 (SD5) Board of Education at the June Board meeting last Tuesday, June 19.

Endicott was born in Natal, B.C. but has spent the last 43 years in Sparwood. An educator with 30 years’ experience, Endicott has worked for SD5 since 1979 (with a break to raise her children), teaching Grades K through 7, English Second Language (ESL), Library, Music, Drama, Student Services and Learning Assistance.

“I love teaching elementary students, especially global citizenship through language arts and social studies at the Grade 6 level. Teaching survival and bullying issues based on historic events like the holocaust or current events like Afghanistan increases tolerance and social acceptance in students. It’s just incredible to witness their growth.”

Endicott says she’s excited about the opportunity as vice-principal to make a difference in the school community rather than in just one classroom.

Board chair Frank Lento agrees that Endicott has what it takes to make a positive difference at Frank J. Mitchell. “Barb has always been community focussed and shares her time generously not only at the school level but through her community volunteer work. We’re very fortunate to have her join our leadership team at FJ Mitchell.”

Endicott has received a volunteer award from the National Muscular Dystrophy Association has been the director/secretary of the Sparwood Curling Club for 20 years and regional secretary of the Zone 2 Curling Association as well as President and Director of the Sparwood Arts Council in the past.
