Nominations open for Sustainable Community Builder Award

Do you know of a group or individual whose efforts have made a lasting impact on our community?

Consider nominating them for the City of Cranbrook’s Sustainable Community Builder Award. Your nomination will show them you value their contribution to our community and provide the winner with a $500 grant to give to a local registered charity of their choice.

The Sustainable Community Builder of the Year Award is given annually on behalf of City of Cranbrook council to an individual, group, club, agency or society that has contributed to the social, arts/cultural, economic and/or environmental sustainability of Cranbrook.

The Cranbrook & District Community Foundation is partnering with the City of Cranbrook in providing $500 to the award winner to donate to the charity of their choice. The funding for the grant comes from the legacy fund left to the Foundation by the Knights of Pythias, Crescent Lodge #33 of Cranbrook.

Eligibility criteria

Preference will be given to a candidate whose action or achievement addresses more than one of the four pillars of sustainability: social, arts/culture, economic and environmental.

For example:

Social – relief of poverty, educational needs, the aged and disabled, prevention of delinquency and substance abuse, health and physical activity

Arts/culture – artistic and cultural expression, recreation and leisure, heritage
economic – providing a range of business, employment and housing opportunities to support families and local services

Environment – Protection and enhancement of parks and natural areas, maintenance of quality and quantity of natural resources such as water, wise investments in infrastructure and future community form.

Note: Activities of religious or political organizations that serve primarily their membership and/or their direct political or religious purposes will not be considered.

The nomination package is accessed through the City of Cranbrook’s website: www.cranbrook.ca.
