Numa fire remains static

The Numa Creek wildfire in Kootenay National Park remains contained at 80 hectares in size and continues to be monitored by Parks Canada staff. There has been no significant precipitation on the fire within the last week, leaving all existing trail/campground closures in effect.

Little visible smoke is being produced by the Numa Creek fire at this time. Distant smoke currently visible in parts of the field unit is being carried north by southerly winds from active fires in south Idaho and Utah.

Lightning strikes throughout the province sparked a number of small wildfires in the last week, which continue to be managed by the provincial Wildfire Management Branch. No new fires have been reported within the Lake Louise-Yoho-Kootenay (LLYK) field unit.

Fire crews continue to monitor conditions and will look at opening the Numa trail, campsite and drainage once rainfall thresholds are met.

The Floe Lake trail, campground and adjacent passes remain open and the Helmet Falls trail, campground and adjacent passes remain open; Tumbling and Helmet/Ochre campgrounds remain open.

The continuous Rockwall trail from Floe Lake through to Helmet Falls is not accessible, as the following closures are in effect: Numa Creek trail, campground and drainage due to wildfire; Tumbling creek trail due to bridges out

Visitors with smoke sensitivities should avoid using the area.
