Escaped Kamloops psychiatric patient Ashley Patrick Koftinoff was apprehended without incident by members of the Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment around 2 p.m. today (July 19).

A citizen who recognized Koftinoff from the pictures that had been circulated through the media notified the Columbia Valley Detachment that he was at a local fast food outlet in Invermere. Officers attended and found Koftinoff seated outside the restaurant and calmly took him into custody.

He is currently being held at the Columbia Valley Detachment pending arrangement for his transfer to a secure mental health facility.
