Public consultation time for Budget 2016

The all-party Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services has announced its schedule for the public consultations on the 2016 provincial budget.

The consultation period will formally open by September 15 in conjunction with the release of the Budget 2016 Consultation Paper prepared by the Ministry of Finance. British Columbians are invited to participate again this year by presenting at a community public hearing in person, via conference call or by videoconference; making a written submission; sending an audio or video file; or completing an online survey.

People in the Kootenays can take part Oct. 7 when a videoconference will be held in Cranbrook.

Public consultations on the provincial budget are held annually in accordance with the Budget Transparency and Accountability Act. The deadline for public input is Thursday, Oct. 15. The committee must release a report on the results of its consultations by Nov. 15.

This year’s consultations will include public hearings and videoconference sessions in the following communities

Victoria – Sept. 15

Castlegar, Kelowna – Sept. 16

Kamloops, Nanaimo – Sept. 17

Vancouver –  Sept. 21

Delta (conference call) – Sept. 28

Prince George (videoconference) – Sept. 29

Dawson Creek (videoconference) – Sept. 30

Terrace (conference call) – Sept. 30

Williams Lake (videoconference) – Sept. 30

Abbotsford (conference call) –  Sept. 30

Fort St. John (videoconference) – Oct. 7

Fort Nelson (videoconference) –  Oct. 7

Cranbrook (videoconference) –  Oct. 7

Quesnel (videoconference) –    Oct. 7

Surrey – Oct. 13
