RCMP address rumour following fatality crash
RCMP East Kootenay Traffic Services this afternoon issued an update on the two-fatality single vehicle collision that occurred in the early morning of March 4 on Gold Creek Road.
The reason for the update, as the incident remains under investigation, is to shut down a social media rumour that the third person involved in the crash has died.
“Please be advised that the third male who had been travelling as a passenger in the 1985 pickup truck is not deceased,” stated Sgt. DG Erichsen.
“The Cranbrook RCMP and the East Kootenay Traffic Services Unit have received telephone calls from the family of the third male teenager advising that social media is alive with rumours of their son’s death. These rumours are completely untrue. The 18-year-old male is alive and being treated for serious but not life threatening injuries in Calgary hospital,” Sgt. Erichsen stated.
“The family asks for their privacy and an end to these rumours which they find very upsetting,” he said.
Two young men, aged 17 and 19, were killed in the Friday morning crash on Gold Creek Road, near 42nd Avenue South.
