RCMP beefing up resources for JulyFest
JulyFest is the busiest weekend of the year for Kimberley RCMP.
With close to 800 people playing bocce and a number of other events going on throughout the weekend, they bring in additional resources. Every member of the detachment will be working and officers from the neighbouring detachments will be coming to help out.
The police want everybody to enjoy themselves; have a good time but be safe and responsible. Public consumption of alcohol is illegal, the fine $230. Yes, that can make for an expensive weekend. There are a number of licensed venues in town including a beer garden right at the bocce pits so there is no reason to consume alcohol on the streets. Often when confronted persons say, “but it’s Julyfest,” – but the rules have not changed.
In addition a traffic services unit will be setting up random road checks through Kimberley during the event. Their focus will be on impaired driving, occupant restraint and other motor vehicle act offences.
Drink responsibly and ensure you have made arrangements to get home.
Have fun!
