RDEK Parks Plan amended for new boat launch
The Regional District of East Kootenay’s (RDEK) Parks Plan was amended June 10 to include the new Yaqakxaqlamki Boat Launch at Lake Koocanusa.
Board directors voted to have the board chair and chief administrative officer sign the Recreation Site Agreement with the Ministry of Forests, Land and Natural Resource Operations. Under this agreement, the RDEK will operate and maintain the boat launch, located across from Koocanusa Marina.
The Board also adopted a new Regulation and Fee Bylaw which sets out the fees that will be charged to launch boats.
The new fee structure includes a single use launch fee of $10, seasonal $50 launch pass for residents of Electoral Areas A, B and C, the Cities of Cranbrook, Kimberley and Fernie, and Districts of Sparwood and Elkford.
The non-resident seasonal pass will be $75 per season and applies to anyone living outside the areas listed above. RDEK staff is now working on a contract for the operation of the boat launch, which is expected to open later this month.
