Rebate program 50% complete; applications still available
The 2014 City of Cranbrook Toilet Rebate program has officially reached the halfway mark. To date, staff has issued 100 rebates, valued at $50 each, which leaves only another 100 available for the year.
“Since the toilet rebate program started four years ago, we have successfully removed 900 big water consumers offline,” says Chris Zettel, Communications Officer for the City of Cranbrook. “This translates into a significant reduction in overall water use in the city, a significant reduction in the amount of water our aging sewer pipes need to deal with and a significant reduction in the amount of wastewater than needs to be handled by our lagoons and spray irrigation facility,” Zettel notes, adding, “that is significant savings for everyone.”
Applications for the rebates are evaluated by staff and processed on a first come, first serve basis. Submitting an application does not guarantee a rebate, so residents are encouraged to take part as soon as possible as the remaining rebates will go quickly.
Property owners replacing toilets on all residential, single and multi-family properties in Cranbrook, built prior to January 1, 2013 are eligible to participate in the program. The rebate does not apply to toilets being installed as part of additions or new construction.
